Franks MythSat., June 3, 2017, 8 pm
Folk Club of South Florida's Acoustic Underground Concert Series

Frank’s Myth Sci-Fi band, is a group of seven accomplished South Florida musicians in their own right. They give voice to the songs and musings of the brilliant songwriter Frank Smith. This seasoned “Spaced Out” storyteller band runs the gamut from the metaphysical to alien abduction, with tales of giant bugs, space workers at the Milky Way Bar and creatures big and small. Songs of love and loneliness, both human, vegetable and robotic.

These songs ring as true today, as they did some 21 earth years ago when the band first formed. Oddly enough, turns out some of these outlandish scenarios were extremely prophetic. It all adds to the magic that is Frank.

The Frank's Myth "All Stars" are Michael Barra, Valerie C. Wisecracker, Grant Livingston, Sean Dibble, Alex Moreno, John Holland and Sean Edelson

Opening Solo Acts: Michael Barra, Grant Livingston and Valerie C. Wisecracker

Earth Day Concert - Fourth Friday at Nest
Join Valerie for Fourth Friday on Artisan Alley, Downtown DeLand's coolest spot for art, shopping, music and bats. Yes, bats!
Valerie is known for her unique take on Florida Americana music, she always pleases the crowd. A third-generation Floridian, Wisecracker has been singing and writing songs about her favorite state in the Union practically since the day she learned to talk. The state's environment—and protecting it—are a big part of her music. But Florida is not the only thing this banjo-picker and guitar-strummer sings about. There's also the fun, irreverent stuff, with a touch of innuendo.

Directions: The Barnacle is located in Coconut Grove (Miami) at 3485 Main Highway.
The Banacle HouseThere is a public parking lot across the street, next to the playhouse and street parking throughout the neighborhood.

This beautiful house with a whimsical name dates to a quieter time. The Barnacle, built in 1891, offers a glimpse of Old Florida during The Era of the Bay. Situated on the shore of Biscayne Bay, this was the home of Ralph Middleton Munroe, one of Coconut Grove’s most charming and influential pioneers. Munroe's principal passion was designing yachts. In his lifetime, he drew plans for 56 different boats. As a seaman, civic activist, naturalist, and photographer, Commodore Munroe was a man who cherished the natural world around him. A walk into the park passes through a tropical hardwood hammock. In the 1920s, it was representative of the original landscape within the city of Miami. Today, it is one of the last remnants of the once vast Miami Hammock. Enjoy the music while gazing up at the luminescent night sky, which is still just as beautiful as it was in 1891!!!

Valerie C. Wisecracker - Opening act for Malcolm Holcombe at 9:30 pm.

Born and raised in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina, Malcolm Holcombe is being recognized by the contemporary U.S and European folk/americana community as a performer of national stature, and an uncommonly unique guitarist/vocalist about whom Rolling Stone magazine says: "Haunted country, acoustic blues and rugged folk all meet [here]..."

"Holcombe's voice — howlin'', rattlin', mumblin', stranglin' — galvanizes stomping, darting bluegrasss ("Baby Doll") and rocking blues with a chain-gang lash ("Yesterday's Clothes"). Genuinely sorrowful and joyful, without a shred of sentimentality, "Not Forgotten" embodies his go-for-broke philosophy: "If you're going to dig a hole, dig it deep. If you're going to smoke a cigarette, smoke it down to the filter" Geoff Gehman, The Morning Call, 10/14/06.

"Lyrically, Holcombe continues to mystify and leave interpretation up to the listener. Rather than painting complete pictures, Holcombe howls and whispers his mountain poetry in short phrases that draw from personal experiences but are abstract enough to be applied to others." (David Brewer, High Country Press, 11/9/06.)

The Music In The Park Series continues on this Holiday weekend in this lovely 350 acre park in South Miami Dade. And what a great afternoon and evening it will be!  We'll start off with an open mike from 2 :00 to 3:00 P.M. so campers, RV'ers , neighbors and other park visitors can show their stuff.  Then we will fill four hours with some of South Florida's best string instrument players and Florida's First Lady Of Folk, Valerie C.Wisecracker.  To top it off, we'll end the show with audience participation in Contra Dancing. Like square dancing except each couple moves up or down the line so you have a new four person square after the routine; don't  worry, we'll teach you.  Then, a  campfire song circle from 7 to 9 P.M.  They'll be food for sale in case you won't be staying in the park.  Walk-ins and drive-ins welcome.  Come celebrate!
